The English Premier League, 2020-2021, commenced in September 2020. The start of the new season is after only a month since the 2019-2020 season ended. We take a look at some EPL reviews for the current season based on past performances, transfers, and more. It’s important to note that because of the global pandemic (CORONA), the current season starts with strict social distancing protocols with only a few fans at the stadium. This means that clubs also have less than another month to sign players as the transfer window officially closed on the 5th of October, 2020.

2020-2021 EPL Reviews

With the current season making substantial headway despite several restrictions, we look at how the season may end. We take a more in-depth look at potential winners, Champions League qualification, domestic cup titles, and possible relegation at the end of the season. EPL Winners The English Premier League is most likely to be a three-way battle. Liverpool, last season’s champions, Manchester City, last season’s runner ups and Chelsea, who finished in fourth, are favorites to bag the league’s win that season and in that order.

Liverpool hasn’t made several signings in the transfer window. However, the singing they did make will have a meaningful impact defensively for the team in Thiago Alcantara. Liverpool looks solid in defense and attack and is the pundit’s favorite to defend their Premier League this season. Manchester City is also bringing in defensive players to compete with Liverpool. The city spent bringing in Nathan Ake and Ferran Torres while Leroy Sane left to join Bayern Munich. Manchester City is also looking to bolster their defense this season by bringing in Koudbaily before the transfer window.

Chelsea spent over 200 million pounds on this transfer window after serving a one-year transfer ban. This enabled them to sign players such as Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva, Mendy, and more while not selling most of the squad to finance transfers.

1. Champions League Qualification

The top three teams vying for the Premier League are favorites to qualify for the Champions League. Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool are favorites to qualify. The last spot is up for grabs between Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspurs, Arsenal, and Manchester United. Manchester United finished in the top 4 the last season with a string of victories since the Premier League’s restart. At the same time, Leicester City lost several games and their qualification spot with a loss to Manchester United on the last day/game. Tottenham signed Gareth Bale, Regulon, Doherty, and more, while Arsenal has done well to sign Willian on a free transfer and get Aubameyang to extend his current contract.

2. Relegation

Leeds, West Brom, and Fulham secured promotion and are back in the Premier League again. Leeds United won the Championship and secured direct promotion into the EPL. While Leeds did lose their first match to Liverpool, they managed to put three goals past the Champions. Leeds are favorites to stay in the League, while West Brom and Fulham are relegation favorites. Aston Villa, Southampton, Newcastle, Westham, and Burnely make up the other teams that could be in a relegation war at the end of the season. Last season, Aston Villa had to wait until the final weekend to confirm their position in the Premier League for the current season.

3. Domestic Titles

The domestic titles include the prestigious FA Cup and the Carabao Cup or the League Cup apart from the EPL Cup. Arsenal is the current FA Cup titleholder and has won the title more than any other English club (14 times). Arsenal is currently pundits favorites to retain the title, although any big-4 or big-6 club could win it. Liverpool boasts of the most League Cup titles (8 title wins). However, Manchester City has lifted the trophy three times continuously (dating back to 2017). Manchester City is also the current EFL Cup titleholders and is favorites to retain the trophy this season.
