English football clubs have only a few weeks before the English Premier League transfer window closes. Clubs can usually sign players during two transfer windows in one season. The summer transfer window is the one that opens before the start of the new season and ends within the first month or a couple of months of Premier League matches. Most teams use the Summer transfer window to make major signings and form a team. The winter window usually opens for a month, starting on New-year’s day. The winter transfer window allows teams to sign players mid-season. Clubs can replace outgoing players, sign replacements for injuries, and more.
English Premier League Transfers
We take a more in-depth look at some of the most significant EPL transfers this summer transfer window. It’s important to note that these signings are most likely going to impact the English Premier League.
1. Manchester City
Manchester City finished second in the English Premier League table last season. Pep felt that City was lacking in defense and brought in reinforcements to bolster his squad. Pep brought in Nathan Ake, Ferran Torres, Pablo Moreno, and Yan Couto. Man City has spent the most on defenders nearing 400 million pounds in the last 4 years under Pep. Departures saw David Silva leave on a free transfer, Sane going to Munich, and Bravo being released (among other squad players).
2. Chelsea FC
Chelsea is spending big again after a season of being banned from the transfer market. Before Chelsea could sign any players, they also sold Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata. Thus the club had over 200 million pounds to spend on bringing in new players, which they did. Chelsea managed to sign Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell, and Eduardo Mendy. Thus, taking their transfer spend to more than 200 million. Chelsea also sold Willian and Pedro on a free transfer after their contracts expired. Most of the other players have been released by the club or are playing on a loan. With the signings above, Chelsea hopes to contend for the English Premier League title this season.
3. Liverpool
The current Champions, Liverpool, signed three players in Diego Jota, Kostas Tsimikas, and Thiago Alcantara. Liverpool has strengthened their squad without letting any important players leave. However, Liverpool hasn’t strengthened their squad the way City or Chelsea did, giving the other teams a slight edge. The club has released several non-squad players and sent several others on loan.
4. Manchester United
Manchester United managed to sign Donny Van De Beek from Ajax and Ighalo on loan from Shanghai Shenhua. United leaked goals consistently last season and the start of this season as well. The club needs to bring in defenders if they want to have an opportunity to finish in the top-4. The club has released Alexis Sanchez for an undisclosed amount and Borthwick-Jackson for free to Oldham.
5. Arsenal FC
Arsenal made moves right at the start of the transfer window to ensure they get their target players. The Gunners managed to sign Willian for free from Chelsea, Gabriel from Lille, Saliba from St.Etienne, Cedric Suarez from Southampton, and more. The club also managed to get Aubamaying to sign a contract extension with the club, which is as good as resigning him again. The club also sold players to balance their books. Mkhitaryan and Martinez were sold for undisclosed amounts. We may see more players leave before the close of the transfer window.
6. Tottenham Hotspurs
Spurs made some big moves after resigning Gareth Bale from Real Madrid on loan, with Madrid covering the loan cost partially. Bale can be a lethal signing for Madrid if he’s in form, not injured, and manages to work on his partnership with Harry Kane. Mourinho’s Spurs also managed to sign Regulon from Real Madrid, Hojbjerg from Southampton, Matt Doherty from Wolves, and Joe Heart for free from Burnely. The club has also seen some significant departures in Jan Vertonghen, Kyle-Walker Peters, and Victor Wamaya. Dele Ali’s future at the club is also undecided, with Mourhino dropping Dele for the first few season games.
Other significant EPL transfers include James Rodriguez and Allan to Everton, Castagne and Under to Leicester City, Helder Costa and Rodrigo to Leeds, and more singings to come before the transfer window closes.
